Easily Format Your Titles in WordPress With HTML

Don’t like how your blog post titles appear on your site?

Did you know that you can use HTML to make simple changes?

Well you can!! It’s super easy.

Here are 3 ways you can edit the layout of your post titles

  • First create a NEW POST

  • We will be adding HTML to the Title area. (where it says “Enter Title Here”)

  • First things first, type the title of your post in the Title area:

Office Supply Addiction:  The Best Notebooks for Less than $20

1-22-p2gu-1

1. To make your title centered, type:

Add <center> to the beginning of your Title and </center> to the end of your title it will look like this:

<center>Office Supply Addiction:  The Best Notebooks for Less than $20</center>

Centered Titles in WordPress Genesis

2. To add a line break in your title, type:

Add the Html tag: <br> where you want the next line to start. It will look like this:

Office Supply Addiction: <br> The Best Notebooks for Less than $20

*This is great when you have a really long title!

Line Break

3. Want to make the title centered and with a line break, type:

Use both HTML tags shown above to create a centered title with a line break. Example below:
<center>Office Supply Addiction:<br>The Best Notebooks for Less than $20</center>
Centered and Line Break

See super easy and really useful!

A word of caution – don’t carelessly hit publish before previewing your post – some themes may not allow you to do this but my current theme (Genesis, Prose) does!

The Power of a Clean Desk

Clutter

It’s like a productivity vacuum. Sucking time and energy out of our days. Whether it’s time digging through a pile of paperwork to find that receipt that “I could have sworn I put it somewhere safe” , or energy cleaning up the clutter so you have a place to work.  Clutter is one of the things I struggle with the most.

This week I took a picture of my desk, hoping to motivate myself to get it cleared off.  Wednesday afternoon I tackled the mess and now I’m sitting at a clear and decluttered desk. I would still love to pare down what I have on my desk but it is already so much better.  What a difference 15 minutes can make.

Look around your workspace.

Is it cluttered?  Do you feel stress creeping in?  Take a 10 minute break and get as much cleared off as possible.  See how you feel once it’s done, you will be pleasantly surprised!

What are you waiting for? Go… and get cleaning!

Moleskine + Evernote = The Evernote Smart Notebook by Moleskine

Evernote AND Moleskine together?

When I first saw that this MIGHT happen I was giddy, high school girl giddy.

I’m not sure if I’ll be shelling out the dough for this one but it looks very promising for us notebook loving techies.

Take a look and let me know what you think…

Frugal and FREE iPhone and iPad Apps To Get You Started.

I’ve got this super frugal friend.

She’s never had a smart phone, she was doing just fine with her simple phone, until yesterday, when she was handed an iPhone.  I think she’s still in shock, an iPhone, a not-so-frugal phone in her possession.  To help her with this ‘change of life’ moment I thought I’d help her out by sharing a few of my favorites FREE apps.  She loves FREE stuff.

Since I don’t have an Iphone (yet) I’ll share some of my favorite iPad Apps that work on the iPhone as well.

Doodle: A Simple Solution for Scheduling Events and Meetings

I just love to entertain and  plan a great party. What I don’t love is finding a date that works for everyone.  Usually someone picks a few dates that might work and then the e-mails start flying!  Back and forth, the replies are sent until a date is finally picked. It can take a week to finally find a date that works for everyone.

I think I’ve finally found a solution!

Meet Doodle:

Doodle is the perfect online (FREE) program that allows you to poll guests to see which day and time works best for everyone.  It is such a time saver!  Doodle is available on the Web (www.Doodle.com) on your Android phone, iPhone and iPad!

Get Started:

Simply Click on “Schedule an Event” to start:

Next you choose a title for your event and fill in the location and a description:

Choose your Date and Time:

In the next step you choose your dates:

Now Choose 3 time options for your event.

You are able to choose up to three times per day for your guests to choose from.

Customize Your Poll:

Now you are ready to choose the settings for your poll:

If you would like more options for your poll you can add special Settings. You can change the settings so attendees can choose “yes”, “no” or “if need be” which is a great way to give people a “second choice” option. You can also limit participants to choosing only one option, as well as making the results private so only the coordinator (you) can see the answers.  If you are planning an event that has limited seating (like for sessions at a conference or meeting) you can allow only a limited number of participants per option.

You can simply click “next” for a basic poll (most are basic, so if you’re not sure just click ‘next’.

Send It Out:

Now you’re ready to send this event out!

You have several options to send out your poll.  You can request a link to the poll page and add it to your own personal e-mail or you can use the Doodle system to send an e-mail invite for you.  I personally prefer to send the e-mail myself so I usually choose the first option.

Bonus Feature, Meet Me Page:

Another great feature Doodle offers are “Meet Me” Pages:

These pages are perfect if you schedule lots of phone meetings, in person meetings, lunch meetings etc.  I often schedule conference calls with clients and I also have monthly coffee meetings with a local client. This Meet Me page is going to be a huge time saver for me!  All I had to do was connect Doodle with my “Meetings” calendar on my personal Google Calendar.  Then I went into my Google Calendar and put in blocks of “Busy” time each week.  Doodle automatically links to my google calendar and only shows my available times.  I can easily send my clients a link to my Meet Me page and they can choose a meeting time that works best for them!  So simple!  Below is how the page will look to your clients:

Get Doodle:

You can try out Doodle onlinedownload for the Ipad or Iphone in Itunes, or use the mobile version from any mobile device. Doodle is also available for Android.

5 Great Programs for Bloggers

Today I’m sharing 5 programs that I use for blogging and business.  Some of these programs are also PC friendly so if you don’t use a Mac, stick around!

1. Evernote – Collect – Process and draft your blog posts. I can not sing the praises of Evernote enough. I truly depend on it every day. Evernote is a virtual notebook that you can access on your computer as well as from your smartphone. You can also access all of your notebooks from anywhere with an internet connection. If you haven’t tried Evernote, you should. It’s free and such a great tool.

2. Text Expander - Another handy little program. I’m actually using the free version right now and it’s working great for me! If you find yourself typing the same paragraph numerous times this is the tool for you! I use it for blogging, business and home.

How it works:

Create customized abbreviations for commonly used phrases, addresses or paragraphs.

I have snippets for:

  • Our home address
  • e-mail signatures for both my blog and business
  • Commonly used e-mail responses
  • Commonly misspelled words
  • Css or HTML code that I use often
  • “dummy” text for projects (Lorem Ipsum)
  • Entering the current date or time
  • My disclosure
  • Blog template for giveaways and reviews

Here’s a good example, when I write out our weekly menu I get really tired of writing the days of the week. I created a snippet so that when I type “Wweek” this appears:

Monday:
Tuesday:
Wednesday:
Thursday:
Friday:
Saturday:
Sunday:

3. Mindmeister

I just found Mindmeister in the last month and I love it. I’ve tried other mind mapping programs in the past but I think I’ve found one I truly love. Mind mapping is a great tool to get your ideas out of your head and start organizing your thoughts. I’m using the free version right now and it allows me to have 3 mind maps which I currently use for my blogs and my business. If you have a hard time collecting your thoughts and organizing your ideas give mind mapping a try.

Here’s a sample Mindmeister from their site: (click to enlarge)

4. SlidePad

Another freebie – Slidepad is such a great little tool. Have you ever been working on something and wanted to just jot down a note quickly but you don’t want to have to navigate out of the program you are working on. Slide Pad is a little notebook that simply slides out from the side of your computer screen so you can jot your note down and get right back to work. You have to give it a try – it’s FREE!

5. Fetch

Fetch has become my FTP (File Transfer Program). It is not free but it is extremely easy to use and reliable. I can pop in and out of my server quickly and upload files easily. I’ve tried other programs but found Fetch to be a very simple solution for me.

When I first got my Mac I spent hours looking through Apples Download site finding and trying out a bunch of programs (some you can purchase other are free) . If you have some free time take a look around the site there are lots of great programs that offer trials too. Apple Downloads.

Not feeling the Luv? The downside to the CommentLuv Plugin

Before I started blogging I was a devoted blog reader; I subscribed to dozens of blogs.  I was an avid Pioneer Woman follower and I was clipping coupons with Money Saving Mom.  I also learned to love the CommentLuv Plugin.  As a blog reader I would always click on someone’s link if the title interested me. It was how I found some of my favorite blogs.   As a blogger I love using CommentLuv to promote my blog.

Unfortunately despite the simplicity of CommentLuv there is one caveat: In order for CommentLuv to work, you MUST enter the http:// before your site’s URL.   If you forget, CommentLuv will not link up your post!

When I learned about this I was disappointed because sadly, I too, have often forgotten to put the http:// before my url.  This means I have lost a number of opportunities to share recent posts and introduce possible new readers to my blog.  I still love CommentLuv, I just can’t believe that I didn’t realize this earlier!

So today’s lesson is:

Don’t forget the http://

How We Used Mabels Labels To Keep Our Kids Safe {Giveaway}

Mabel's Labels - Labels for the stuff kids lose!

I purchased a set of Mabel’s Labels a few months ago. I had heard great buzz about the company on Twitter so I decided to give them a shot. I decided to go with the Bag Tags. I knew I could put these on our children’s backpacks, my diaper bag and other personal items.

This weekend we were offered complimentary tickets to attend Sesame Place’s Opening Day.  If you’ve never heard of Sesame Place – Imagine a mini Disney for Sesame Street.  We were so excited to have an opportunity to go.  I knew I wanted to find a way to keep our kids safe since I knew opening day would be a very busy day with a lot of people around.

Then I had a brilliant idea!  I grabbed two of the Mabel’s Labels tags and hooked them on the belt loop of our kid’s pants, then tucked the tag in their pocket.

I explained to Claire that if she can’t find mommy or daddy she should show another mom the tag.  We even did a little practice run.

I told her to pretend she was lost.  Then I asked her, “Hi there, what’s your name? Where’s your mommy?” She immediately grabbed her tag and showed me it.  I even practiced with our 2 year old and asked him what his name was and showed him to pull out his tag and show it to me.

The tag has our family name and our phone number on the front. I took a small white label and wrote our cell # on the label and stuck it on the back ( since we would only have our cell phone with us).

During our trip  I was waiting in line for a ride with both kids, when the line moved forward. Claire was busy talking to another little girl and forgot to move up.  I looked back at her and watched.  She looked around, not seeing me she grabbed her tag and showed it to the first mommy she saw. {Please know that she was only a few feet from me and I did not intentionally leave her back in the line} I was so proud of her!  I called her over and she proudly told me, “mommy I remembered my tag!”  So cute!

I’m convinced that there are many other uses for the Bag Tags.  They are waterproof and made to withstand a toddler banging them around.  I’m hoping to try their Sticky Labels soon too.  I’m sure I can find a million uses for them!

Today you have a chance to win a set of Bag Tags courtesy of Mabel’s Labels!
